Hilo Real Estate
|
For instance, it is not unusual to find a fairly decent home at a price lower than $200,000 when you are searching for real estate in Hilo. The normal size of homes within that price range is below 1000 square feet but a large percentage of them actually need some work. But in a tropical climate, for many people, larger square footage might not be as critical as in other places, since it’s most probable that they will spend lots of time outdoors. In Hilo, it’s observable that many properties are smaller, suggesting the fact that indoor space is not really an issue.
Of course, if you want or need more square footage, it is available, for generally the same rate per square foot throughout the Hilo real estate market. In Hilo, if you like to double the square footage of the real estate, plan on doubling the price as well. Hilo, just like any other part ofHawaii, is rich with sprawling homes that offer breathtaking views - of course, causing you millions of dollars. The great news is, there’s no need to spend millions of dollars just to benefit from a decent view. In fact, there are areas in California where you would spend more money for less house and get no view at all for the price.
As with everything else, there are exemptions to the rule. For as low as $150,000, you can own a large property. At the other end of the continuum, numerous properties base their prices on the view that they offer. If you want, you can spend over $1 million for a 1 bedroom cottage set on 6 acres of paradise.
The point is that Hilo real estate isn’t as unaffordable as you might think. Even though Hawaii is a prime tourist spot with lots of prime land, the fact is, there are plenty of people in Hawaii who simply live and work there, just like anywhere else, and they don’t have to live in slums. Decent property is available in beautiful Hawaii, for decent prices.
